This spring, GBT’s annual birding fundraising trip took us to southern Spain, where we experienced incredible wildlife, stunning scenery, and amazing cuisine.
The highlight was watching the spectacular raptor migration over the Strait of Gibraltar from Morocco to Spain. We also witnessed a major conservation victory firsthand: the Northern Bald Ibis, a species that had been extinct in the wild for 300 years, is now successfully nesting in the region following a dedicated reintroduction effort.
During the trip, we:
- Spotted close to 200 bird species
- Marveled at the antics of Spanish Ibex and saw whales and a lynx
- Feasted on delicious Andalucian specialties
- Fell in love with our knowledgeable and charming guide
